Only parent unit can use batteries.  It’s nice but kind of a pain because even though it can work with batteries you still have to have it plugged in to turn on and off.

Hi - The VTech DM1111 is an AC powered baby monitor. The AAA batteries are for back-up use and there is no battery recharging on the parent unit.

I really like it to put in my girl's room i was worry to be able to hear true the walls the other room noice but not even a beep another thing i really like is that their is no static in the parents monitor yey! i haven't used it on battery operated cuz i don't have a baby i just used it at night time.

Speaker is a reasonable volume, not too loud not too quiet! Sound is pretty clear %26 the Charging Cords are very long!!! Perfect!

we didnt want a video monitor as we needed one for mom - helping her keep some privacy. this was perfect for our needs. mom has Alzheimer's  - she lives with us but we couldnt always hear if she called for us at night. this is perfect and kept it discreet so she doesnt even know its in her room

simple monitor for mom

i wanted an audio only, no wifi monitor for my baby's room and this works perfectly across my 2400  sq ft house. volume on the parent unit can be turned up to a good level. it will also light up when there is noise detected so you have the visual cue as well. great value for the price paid and zero issues so far in the month i've had it

exactly what i needed

I have this set up, so I can hear my elderly mom who lives with me, if she ever needs help, and can't get to the two-way radio at night. It's essential for caregivers, and the price is very good. Sound quality is decent, but might not be loud enough for very weak voices. I keep it right near me at night. We all sleep better with it.

Its a great product, just the battery to the parent unit never charged even after following the directions completely, so I like the product, just wish it worked as advertised

Can I get a replacement battery??

to much static and not loud at all and cant turn it up anymore the volume is so low

The Walmart description states that the parent unit has a backup battery that will take 2 AAA batteries (not included). In another spot in the description it states that it is a rechargeable battery. It does not take AAA batteries so that is incorrect. That is the reason that I bought so I am disappointed that you can't seem to find a monitor that can run on replaceable batteries in the event that you need to use that feature and don't have a plug at all times. Hopefully this description gets updated so it is accurate.
